Local designers One Fell Swoop celebrates with show at Carillon City Cinema

Last night saw local designers One Fell Swoop celebrates its coming of age with its first stand-alone show at Carillon City Cinema

Design duo Daniel Romanin and Nikolina 'Nina' Ergic launched their exciting spring/summer collection on Tuesday 20 August 2013, to an eager crowd of influential fashionista’s, media and VIPs. The Old Carillon City Cinema provided a hauntingly beautiful backdrop to the dramatic One Fell Swoop SS14 collection. The old single-screen cinema which has been vacant since 1983, created a buzz with everyone gasping on entry and so excited to the cinema reactivated for the evening.

The One Fell Swoop new spring/summer collection, Making It Up as You Go, contained some of Romanin and Ergic’s most experimental and beautiful work to date. “This collection is by far the most delicate we’ve done, but it’s also the easiest to approach and to wear,” Ergic says. “We had five or six key fabrications in different textures and prints – and it was about working different combinations into one garment.”

Adds Romanin: “The whole ethos and idea of this particular range was the idea of exploration and travelling. No one sets out to travel knowing what they are going to do. It’s an unknowing – a real experimentation for the sake of experimentation.” “So much of One Fell Swoop is Perth – simple and elegant, but at the same time complex,” he says. “It’s not showy for the sake of being showy or technical for the sake of doing something new – there’s a cohesiveness that’s natural and I feel Perth inspires that a lot.

New York based Vogue girl Bambi Northwood-Blyth was a special surprise for the on lookers. Bambi was flown in specially to walk the catwalk and complete a Rush Magazine shoot for One Fell Swoop – all as part of her first trip to Perth. Bambi has worked with designers as Alice McCall, Arnsdorf, Camilla and Marc, Dion Lee, Ellery and Sara Phillips at Australian Fashion Week, ag & bone, Topshop Unique, Chanel, Balenciaga and Diesel. She was also the face of Calvin Klein CK one.
