Passionate cyclists support serious cause

For the past 11 years, Hawaiian has made a commitment to help prevent youth suicide and depression by sponsoring the Hawaiian Ride for Youth.

The ride is undoubtedly a test of endurance, where passionate cyclists pit their will against a 700 kilometre journey from Albany to Perth - stopping along the way to talk to schools and youth groups to raise awareness for the cause and money for its supporting charity Youth Focus.

For the past two years Hawaiian has had a team of staff who have braved the course, committing to a gruelling six month training schedule, rain, hail or shine.

This year the team comprises Sean Duffin, John Monahan, Jennifer O’Brien, Ashley Arnold and Leah Pearson.

Hawaiian Director and Chief Executive Officer Russell Gibbs said the ride highlights the affect youth suicide and depression has on the whole community.

“Each and every teenage suicide affects hundreds of people; families, friends and neighbours, this is an issue of concern for the whole community that Hawaiian is very proud to be involved in,” he said.

The Hawaiian Ride for Your starts on April 1 and continues through until April 5, with riders finishing their journey in Kings Park.
