WAAPA presents 'West Side Story'
WAAPA's 2nd and 3rd year music theatre students present the multi-award-winning 'West Side Story' this June at the Regal Theatre.
'West Side Story' has entertained millions worldwide since it first hit the stage in 1957. Based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, it tells the story of two teenage lovers from rival street gangs whose love is thwarted by circumstances beyond their control. When Tony joins his gang, the Jets, at a school dance he meets and falls for Maria, the sister of the Shark’s leader, Bernardo. They dream of overcoming their differences but gang violence makes it impossible for them to live happily ever after.
